In these dark times there is a desperate need for something positive. Venice Urban sketching collective Matite in Viaggio 2025 is an opportunity to see the world through the eyes of artists who strive to find the best side of what they see and experience.

This is what urban sketching is about: telling stories of the places by means of lines and brushstrokes that capture the sounds, scents and atmosphere of that place and moment in time.

How? Where? When?
The 2025 edition will take place across two exceptional venues: M9 – Museum of the 20th Century, Via Giovanni Pascoli 11, Mestre and Forte Marghera fondation / Venice Academy of Fine Arts, Via Forte Marghera 30, Venice-Mestre

Both the locations will be open to visitors from October 31 to November 16, Friday to Sunday, 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
A Little Getaway
From October 31 to November 2, you’ll find me at the exhibition venues, next to my artworks.
I’m returning after five years away. The last time I was at home of “Matite in Viaggio was in 2019”, when the group show was held at the Candiani Cultural Center, now under renovation.

Flashback
This will be my seventh exhibition with Matite in Viaggio, but only the second one in person.
There was the pandemic, the lockdown, the loss of my dear father, and some other unfortunate events in these years. So I could not attend the opening. I wasn’t there—but they were.

A Great Little Sketchbook
This time, the selected sketchbook for the exhibition has a very unusual format: 100 pages measuring only 3×3 cm, a sort of tiny cube.

The live sketches made at the Port of Cesenatico (Italy) in August 2024 will be on show in the special section “Ports and Harbors.”
Sea Breeze
At the port of Cesenatico, I observed its most intimate side — the workshops, the “old and weary” fishing boats hauled from the canal, the ancient anchor by the roundabout — all infused with the scent of the sea and the scorching heat of August.

Small or very small?
Some subjects also appear in another sketchbook created during the same period: a 30 pages album measuring 7×10 cm.
