Mini sketchbooks return to tell stories from the world in Venice
There are events that are not merely exhibitions, but gathering places where travelers, dreamers, and artists come together to share a way of living and looking at the world. For me, Matite in Viaggio 2026 is exactly that: a welcoming home where sketchbooks open up and stories come back to life.

The 16th edition of “Matite in Viaggio – Carnets Disegni Parole” will take place from October 30 to November 15, 2026. This exceptional setting will feature carnets de voyage displayed across the spaces of the M9 Museum and the Fine Arts Academy Pavilion at Forte Marghera, in Venice Mestre.
Beauty of traveling and the Value of life sketching
Every time I flip through a travel journal, my mind returns to that fundamental value uniting all artist-travelers: visiting places, meeting people, listening to stories, and bearing witness to human freedom and dignity through the arts of drawing and writing.
In an era dominated by instantaneity, sitting down with watercolors or pencils to capture that precise moment means choosing slowness. It means truly observing the nuances of a landscape in shifting light, or the curve of a smile. A sketchbook is never just a simple report: it is an emotional trace, an intimate dialogue between the artist and the place.
My Sketchbooks at Matite in Viaggio 2026
This sixteenth edition will feature my sketchbooks across two categories. The two projects that mean so much to me both share the “mini” format I choose to enclose grand emotions within small spaces.
Main Topic
For the main theme, my sketchbook “Toscana in miniatura” (Tuscany in Miniature) was selected. I wanted to tell the story of one of Italy’s most famous regions from a unique perspective: in miniature format. I will take you through hidden gems—like the traditional brigidini of Lamporecchio, the ancient walls of Lucca, and the narrow carruggi of small villages—all the way to iconic vistas such as Piazza del Campo in Siena, Florence Cathedral, and the Ponte Vecchio.
The featured drawings come from a miniature sketchbook of over 100 pages, measuring just 3×3 cm, created in August 2022. You can discover more in this article (link to website article).
Special Section B: Summer Festivals (Music, in Theater and street art)
In summer, Italy fills with music, melodies, and dancing for every taste—from working-class neighborhoods to the beaches of the Riviera. In this project, I wanted to capture the vitality of traditional dances in the streets of Lingotto (the Turin district that grew around the FIAT plant), jazz notes in Cervia along the Riviera Romagnola, and the energy of Celtic rock in San Ponso, Piedmont, famous for its frog festival (sagra della rana).
